Prof. Kem Ramdass spent his childhood in a small town called Verulam on the Kwa-Zulu Natal North coast. He matriculated in 1980 with a matriculation exemption and immediately started his working career as a Work Study Officer at Ninian and Lester in Durban. As he progressed in his working life to Senior Work Study Officer, Head of Industrial Engineering, Spinning Mill Manager and eventually Training Officer at the Clothing Industry Training Board, he simultaneously managed to complete his academic qualifications from a National Diploma in Organisation and Work Study to a D.Phil in Engineering Management at the University of Johannesburg through part time studies. He graduated in 2017 with a Post Graduate Diploma in Higher Education through Rhodes University. He is Associate Chair in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of South Africa responsible for external affairs. He has a passion for process improvement using all the tools of industrial engineering, quality and operations management. He has over 45 articles in conferences and accredited journals and is a distinguished author of a textbook called Operations Management. He has ECSA certification as a Professional Engineering Technologist and is Associate Professor at Unisa.
