This year, the SAIIE35 Annual Conference saw a record-breaking attendance and what an incredible start to the event!
Day 1 was packed with insightful sessions, thought-provoking keynotes from Corné Schutte and Mark Sham, parallel sessions, and meaningful connections, all set against the stunning backdrop of Cape Town. Delegates wrapped up the day with a networking cocktail function at the Two Oceans Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront, and were surrounded by great conversation. for a glimpse into a day filled with knowledge, collaboration, and inspiration. Day 2 of the SAIIE35 Annual Conference continued to impress! Delegates explored a range of cutting-edge topics through parallel workshops, including:

The day’s keynote, “Making Waves in the Built Environment,” by Tshidi Mndzebele, sparked powerful insights into innovation, sustainability, and systems thinking within our ever-evolving landscape.

Day 3 at SAIIE35 reminded us why collaboration and curiosity make such powerful waves!
From thought-provoking workshops, including:
- Learning How to Ride the Waves: A Workshop Rethinking How We Make Decisions
- Zen and the Art of Facility Design
- Innovation is Not a Tsunami: Building Culture One Wave at a Time
and an inspiring keynote by Benoit Le Roy with the theme “The Perfect Storm, The Perfect Opportunity, The Convenient Truth,” to an unforgettable Water Panel Discussion exploring the future of sustainable systems. Delegates also enjoyed a fun twist with the conference raffle, where participants walked away with surprise gifts from various exhibiting companies.
We ended the day and the conference on a high note with a lively conference dinner, where laughter, connection, and live music filled the room. During the dinner the SAIIE35 Award for the Best Paper published in the Proceedings, the Best Poster, the Best Presenter, Best Photo as well as the Hottest Whova driver were also awarded.

To cap off the SAIIE35 Conference, 28 conference delegates took part in a factory tour at K-Way on Day 4, one of South Africa’s leading clothing manufacturing companies. Delegates experienced the full journey of garment production, from concept and design, through precision manufacturing, to the final product. The visit included a talk on the history of K-Way, as well as insights into their commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
